Who this is for
Board & Train is the right fit when consistency and repetition matter more than pace — working households who can't train daily, dogs who need a jump-start before group classes make sense, or handlers who want the foundational heavy lifting done before they start practicing skills themselves. It is not a shortcut that removes your role in the process; it's a head start on it.
What happens during the stay
Your dog lives in a home-based training environment (not a kennel facility) for two weeks, receiving two structured training sessions a day plus supervised socialization, enrichment, and rest. Training follows the same force-free, marker-based methods used in every other program here — nothing happens in a board-and-train that wouldn't happen in a private lesson, just more frequently.
Typical focus areas include:
- Foundational obedience: sit, down, stay, place, loose-leash walking, and recall
- Impulse control around food, doors, and greetings
- Crate comfort and settling independently
- Basic manners around household routines — mealtimes, guests, and departures
Specific goals are set collaboratively in an intake consultation before the stay begins, based on what matters most in your household.
The transfer sessions
A trained dog with an untrained handler reverts quickly — the skills live in the relationship between the dog and whoever is running the reinforcement, not in the dog alone. That's why the program includes three in-person transfer sessions after your dog comes home, where we teach you the specific cues, hand signals, and timing your dog has learned, and coach you through running the training yourself in your own space.
Daily updates
You'll receive a short written or photo update most days during the stay, and a full written report with video examples of key behaviors at pickup, so you have a reference for exactly what's been trained and how to cue it.
Before you book
We require a temperament and health screening consultation before accepting any dog into Board & Train, to confirm the program is appropriate and to rule out medical contributors to any behavior concerns. Dogs with a history of severe aggression are evaluated case by case and may be better served by our private Reactivity & Behavior Modification program instead.
