Senior Dog Enrichment & Mobility-Aware Training

Gentle, mobility-conscious mental enrichment for dogs slowing down but still wanting a job to do.

Training doesn't stop when a dog slows down

A senior dog with stiffer joints or a little less hearing still has the same underlying need for mental engagement that they had at two years old — what changes is the format. This program adapts training and enrichment specifically around common senior-dog realities: shorter sessions, softer footing, hand signals as hearing fades, and games that reward thinking over sprinting.

What we work on

  • Low-impact enrichment games — scent work, puzzle feeders, and simple problem-solving that tire a senior dog's brain without stressing joints the way fetch or agility would.
  • Hand-signal transitions, building or reinforcing visual cues for dogs experiencing hearing decline, so communication stays clear as their senses change.
  • Confidence-building on tricky surfaces, gently rebuilding comfort on stairs, slick floors, or car ramps where balance or vision changes have created new hesitation.
  • Cognitive engagement exercises associated with supporting mental sharpness in aging dogs, discussed alongside — never instead of — your veterinarian's guidance on senior wellness.
  • Realistic pacing, with built-in rest and a session structure that respects a senior dog's stamina rather than pushing through fatigue.

What this program is not

This is not a substitute for veterinary care, and any new stiffness, disorientation, or behavior change in a senior dog should be evaluated medically first — training adjustments happen alongside that care, not instead of it. We'll ask about any known joint, vision, or cognitive diagnoses upfront so every exercise is chosen with those specifics in mind.

Format

Four private, shorter sessions at a pace your dog sets, usually in your home where footing and layout are already familiar and comfortable.

What families tell us afterward

Most owners aren't looking for new obedience skills at this stage — they're looking for a way to keep their senior dog engaged, confident, and mentally busy for as long as possible. That's exactly what this program is built to do.
